Wheelchair Basketball Rolling Along

Fraser River played an exciting game against Fraser Valley in the wheelchair basketball match on the first day of the BC Winter games.
The final score was 31 to 18 for Fraser Valley which was a very exciting game with many fouls being called and even a upset of a chair that required one of the participants to leave the game but returned soon after.
The only girl on the Fraser River team 14-year-old Stephanie Park, of Maple Ridge, was extremly excited to have scored her very first basket on the 10 footnets. She is nicknamed Princess and was called on three major fouls.
She said "I still had 2 more I could have got and that means I am in the game," she said. "This was a much better game then our first game which we lost 54 to 14 to Thompson-Okanagan"
Wheelchair basketball has similar rules to regular basketball and not all the athletes have to be disabled. Fraser Valley has a higher percent of disabled compared to many of the other teams.

More than 1,500 participants are in Cranbrook and Kimberley for the Games, which wrap up Sunday.
