Richmond overcomes Victoria in three sets

By Betty Roper BC Games News Service

In the only Badminton final to go a full three sets, Jason Ong and Calvin Chow of Zone 4 (Richmond) had their hands full in the first match as Christopher Wan and Robbie Thomas of Victoria (Zone 6) defeated them 21 – 17. Ong and Chow rallied to take the second match 21 – 14 and then the third 21– 11 to win the gold.

Chow said their strategy was to “play easy until we found a chance to kill it.” Ong agreed, “We tried to figure out who was the weakest on the otherteam and play to them as much as we could.”

Anthony Arduini and Carson Chu of Kamloops (Zone 2) played a strong match towin the bronze medal against Jacky Chan and Alex Lim of Zone 3 (Coquitlam).

More than 1500 participants are in Cranbrook and Kimberley for the BC Winter Games, which wrap up Sunday.

It was a great experience to play in the B.C. Winter Games and I enjoyed playing with Alex Lim. The bronze medal match, which we won was also fun and competitive.

Thank you to all the volunteers and staff that helped make the Games become a great life experience.

Jacky Chan
