President Rob McIntyre Says Games Are Ready to Roll
The BC Games are ready to roll says president Rob McIntyre. Other than a few small last minute details the Kimberley/Cranbrook BC Winter Games are set to host 1500 athletes plus coaches and officials from throughout the entire province February 21st to February 24th.
"It has certainly been a tremendous amount of work to host this event," said Rob McIntyre. "A project this huge can only be accomplished by a dedicated team of volunteers. Our directors and their key chairs have done an exceptional job. I would like to thank them and all our volunteers along with the key sponsors and friends of the games, we couldn't do this without such great community support. The goal of the achieving 2,500 volunteers has exceeded--that's 10% of the communities, though there is still a need for volunteers in some specific areas like accommodations and security."
McIntyre is confident that the athletes will really enjoy their time in the Kimberley and Cranbrook area. He said this weekend should be a very meaningful and fun experience for the athletes, coaches and officials. Their visit will be very focused and intense but it will also be a great opportunity for participants to experience the Kootenays, make new friends and excel at their sport.
"Someone said hosting the BC Games is like peeling an onion, you peel away layer after layer as each job is accomplished." Rob McIntyre explained. "And like peeling an onion there were a few tears along the way too--sometime tears of frustration but mostly tears of joy."
The BC Winter Games return to the Kimberley/Cranbrook area for the first time in 20 years. Rob McIntyre and his team of directors and volunteers are proud to host such a high profile and exciting event. Everyone is encouraged to get out and enjoy the games. Spectators are welcome to attend all the events--it truly is Kimberley and Cranbrook's time to shine.
