Coquitlam wins over Nelson 7-4 in boys curling

Coquitlam’s Matthew Sebastiani lead his team to a 7-4 victory over Nelson’s Philip Rawick in opening day curling action at the BC Winter Games. Coach Ken Krause said “We had pre-game jitters, having some good spots and some bad spots” Krause adds “The team needs to buy a lottery ticket, we are feeling lucky to have pulled off the win” Sebastiani said.

Vancouver dominates Richmond in Girls’ Doubles

The team of Eileen Wong and Vanora Lo from Vancouver (Zone 5) easily downed the Richmond team of Terri Ling and Joyce Kwok in two straight sets: 21 – 9 and 21 – 16 respectively in doubles badminton action at the BC Winter Games in Cranbrook. Kelsey Lee of Coquitlam and Victoria Yang of Surrey won the bronze medal match by defeating Brittany Lank and Rachel Andreychuk of Prince George.
Wong and Lo have not played doubles together before this competition; they have different partners in their home club “We do play singles as well and we’re good friends too,” said Wong. The girls say they’re having a lot of fun and the competition has been better than expected. “It’s so cold here, though,” laughed Lo.
Both Wong and Lo say their parents are very supportive and they are looking forward to taking part in provincial competitions in the next few years.

North West - Men's Hockey

In the fourth game of the Winter Game men’s hockey the North West took a 7-1 beating from Vancouver/Squamish.
Despite a losing game the North West goaltender, Colton Wardrop of Huston made 33 saves from a total of 40 shots on his goal. Wardrop’s team won’t dress now until tomorrow at 7:00 am when they face the Okanagan while Vancouver/Squamish will play later tonight against Fraser River Delta.
