Fraser Valley Squeaks Out Victory Wheelchair B-Ball
Vancouver Island-Central had a great game against Fraser Valley at the BC Winter games on the first day of the Round Robin. Only one point seperated the teams with less then 3 minutes to go in the fourth period. Fraser Valley won with a final score of 32 to 27.
The Islanders as they called themselves have brothers on the team,19-year-old Anthony and 15-year-old Alex Townsend, of Nanaimo. Anthony is an able bodied player and helps coach the Junior team which he said "allows me to know what the players are going to do before they do it"
He also said " that by having a brother that is disabled this sport allows them to play a game that all the family can be involved in". The Junior teams have to shot on 8 foot baskets and the Seniors get to shot on the 10 foot basket heights.
