Female archer no slouch against the boys
Erin Liebich, a female archer from Squamish, is affectionately known as KB squared. Her response to the obvious question is delivered with a wide smile and a hint of a twinkle in her eye. KB squared means "Kick Boy Butt." As the only female in her category, Erin is out to make a statement.
She is competing in the recurve section at the Cranbrook-Kimberley Winter Games. To qualify for a spot on the Zone 5 archery team, Erin had to compete against archers with compound bows. When asked whether this put Erin at a disadvantage, archery official Ken Walker shook his head and said, Erin "is just that good."
Erin said that her involvement in archery began as a combination of fun and curiosity. It wasn't long before she was hooked, "It was cool, "she said, "and I liked the travel." Aside from "kicking boy butt" at the Winter Games, Erin is looking forward to bigger competitions. She is part of an archery program that has its sights on the 2012 Olympics in London. Perhaps she will be able to visit Nottingham Forest.
