Ringette
The girls from Thompson-Okanagan fought a hard and fast ringette game to win 8-0 over Northwest in the opening round at the BC Winter Games in Cranbrook. While the game started evenly matched, Thompson-Okanagan soon forged ahead. Northwest put up a good show and played a great defence game, however, Thompson Okanagan kept up the momentum and in the end won convincingly.
Coach Donna Mihalcheon from Vernon, said "We are having a blast at the Winter Games. Both teams played really well and we enjoyed playing against North West.”

Girls Curling
Kamloops enjoyed their first victory in girls curling with Kelsey Schwindt winning over Terrace’s Rebecca Kucharyshen 10-2 at the BC Winter Games in Cranbrook. “We played really well, with the team staying focused”, said Schwindt.“They followed the game plan right through.”

Curling
Grand Forks skip Randi Ludwar brings home a victory in a 14-3 win over MeritThorson’s Richmond team (see photo above) during the first round of play at the BC Winter Games in Cranbrook. “We played good, we fixed our problems early, and the team stayed calm and positive,” said Ludwar, adding “We had a good opening game”.

Ringette
Fraser Valley took an early lead over Vancouver Island Central Coast and maintained their hold to win 7-0. The girls from Vancouver Island Central Coast made a valiant effort, considering they have only been playing for six months. However, the clearly experienced Fraser Valley team were unstoppable.
Coach Leanne Fawcett from Fraser Valley was pleased to be at the BC Winter Games. She said "Our girls played excellently. The kids from Vancouver Islandplayed hard, and should be given kudos for coming to play".
The atmosphere in the Civic Centre was buzzing, even at 7am. It was a great start to the ringette tournament.

Ringette
Fraser River-Delta was able to hold the Zone 1 Replacement team at bay to win their game 6-0. The score does not reflect the closeness of the game. It was a fast and exciting game full of interceptions and shots at goal. However, Fraser River-Delta were the ones that got the ring in the net!
Coach Melody Arthurs from Fraser River-Delta felt that the games were a great experience for her team. She said "It is thrilling to be competing against different teams, and the girls are now looking forward to their next game".
The tweens are now playing with the 30 second shot clock This is producing quick exciting games.

Curling
Alyssa Kyllo led her Vernon rink to a 9-2 victory over the Hailey McNair foursome from Royal City (New Westminster) in the first round of play at the B.C. Winter Games in Cranbrook on Friday. “The team brought it out, it came down to who figured out the ice first”, said Kyllo, adding “Their skip deserves a lot of credit.”
"We are on pace with where we want to be, each game and rock, one at a time," said Vernon coach Scott Kyllo.
