Another Ali excels at boxing

In an exhibition of solid defence, superior footwork and crisp punching, Sahara Ali of Nanaimo won a convincing decision over Danika Buxton.  both girls engaged in a level of mayhem that left no doubt among the spectators that girls can fight.

Sahara is a dedicated athlete.  She trains five days a week and has her sights on the 2012 Olympics in London.  When asked why she got into boxing, this 16 year old said that she thought boxing should not be just a male-dominated sport, and she loves learning how to defend herself. If her performance on the opening day of competition is any indication, the Sahara is well on the way to changing that old saying that "Boxing is the manly  art of self-defence."

Sahara said that finding competition is a problem for young female boxers.  She pointed out that there are numerous women fighters 19 and older, but finding competitors her age and her weight is difficult.  Talking with her, one gets the sense that she will find a way to overcome obstacles in her boxing career.
